To Have Or Not To Have

Are you having one of those days where you just feel like the world is out to get you?  We’ve all had those days.  The good news is that there are things you can do to turn your day around.  And no, it doesn’t include a magic wand or fairy dust.

First, you need to understand how the mind works in creating the “snowball effect”.  One thing goes wrong which upsets you and causes you to start to feel negative.  While in that negative state, it’s easier to attract more negativity to you.  The second incident certainly suggests that “this is going to be one of those days”.  The universe honors your thoughts and bring more unpleasant things your way.  And so goes the rest of your day, one upset after another.

So how do you stop this snowball from getting larger?  You change your thoughts about the things that are happening.  Most things that occur in life that we deem “unpleasant” typically serves one of two purposes; to teach us something or to steer us in another direction.  Okay so you burnt the toast this morning.  The lesson: change the setting on the toaster to lighter next time.  The power went out last night and the alarm clock didn’t go off.  The lesson: buy an alarm clock with a battery backup.  These things don’t have to ruin your day.  What we tell ourselves in response to these things will set the tone for the rest of the day.

When I burn the toast, rather than get upset, I’m grateful that there is more bread to toast.  No biggy.  And when the alarm goes off late, I figure I needed the extra sleep.  Will the boss be upset?  Maybe, but I don’t have to be upset because the boss is.  I have a choice in the matter.  Focusing on the positive is like wearing a shield of armour.  It protects you from drawing more negative things into your life.

So if your day started off a bit rough, shift your focus to all that is going right in your life right now.  Is the sun shining?  What a gift!  Did your car get you to work this morning?  How fortunate are you!  Oh wait, you have a job!  Do you realize how many people out there that don’t have jobs?  Gratitude will change the course of you day.  Be grateful, be blessed, and enjoy the day!

So when your days starts out a bit rough, focus on the positive.  Be willing to laugh at some of the things that happen.  It’s a great way to turn a situation around.

Wishing you much happiness and success!
