Discipline Yourself For Success

“Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments.”Jim Rohn

Success is the outcome of reaching your goals.  And in order to reach your goals, you must be disciplined.  But what does that mean in real life?  Basically, it means creating habits that will help you to stay focused and on task.   One of the things that I found that helps me is to make a list of 6 things that needs to be accomplished (in order of priority) each day.  I make the list the night before because it helps me to start the day with a pre-planned purpose.  You’d be amazed at the amount of things you can accomplish using this method.

Another strategy that I find helpful is to keep a calendar on my desk with projected completion dates written down.  Being the competitive person that I am, I love to challenge myself to reach a goal early.  The idea here is to come up with tools that are doable and that help you to keep your goals in the forefront of your mind.  Keep in mind that it takes 21 days to form a new habit.

When I first starting setting goals and was figuring out ways to stay on track, I would reward myself for little successes along the way.  For example, making a list of 6 things to do each day was new to me.  I was more of a fly by the seat of my pants kind of person so this one was not any easy habit for me to develop.  So what I did was reward myself in the beginning each day that I completed all 6 tasks.  A double latte on the way home from work became a favorite reward.

It takes discipline and persistence to create new habits.  But the pay-off is success.  Enlist the help of a friend or family member in the beginning if necessary.  And be willing to try things you haven’t done before.  Remember the saying that goes something like this, “If you continue to do what you’ve always done, you’ll continue to get what you’ve always got.”

Wishing you much success!

  1. help with letting people control you as a christian.

  2. If I’m understanding you correctly, you are wondering how you can be a good christian without letting others control you. If that’s right, a great book for you to read is Boundaries: When to Say Yes, How to Say No to Take Control of Your Life by Henry Cloud. I read it many years ago and found it be very helpful. If I have misunderstood your comment please respond again.

    Best Regards
