Success Tip # 3

Success Tip # 3 – Staying Motivated

One of the greatest challenges to reaching a goal is staying motivated.  We often times will lose sight of the goal when the going gets tough.  And you have to guard against that if you are going to be successful.  One of the first things that I do when I have set a new goal for myself is write that goal down along with the reasons why I want to reach the goal.  This gives me something to refer back to when I run into obstacles.

Another step that I take to ensure my success is to tell myself from the get-go that there are likely to be a few bumps in the road and I just need to get through the one that is immediately facing me.  I keep this quote by Walter Elliott close by “Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after another.”  This ties in with my message in Challenge Yourself (June 12).  I try to break challenges down into little chunks because that feels more doable to me.

Another way that I stay motivated is to make a vision board of the outcome of the goal.  A vision board is a set of pictures depicting how you envision yourself once you reach your goal.  I use the dream board (same idea as a vision board) on  Once I’ve created it, I print it off and hang the picture in my office where I can see if everyday.  Talk about motivation.  I get fired up every time I look at it.

I also find it helpful to educate myself on anything that will help me to reach my goals.  For example, I have read nearly 12 books in the last two months on Internet businesses because that it what I hope to be doing and it is an area I don’t know enough about.  I love this quote by Jim Rohn, “Formal education will make you a living.  Self-education will make you a fortune.”  To better the odds, I’m a student of both!

Staying motivated is essential for reaching your goals.  The key is to not give up when the going gets tough.  Most people quit right before they reach the finish line.  Don’t let this be you!

  • Write you goals down, along with your reasons for wanting to reach the goal.
  • Prepare yourself for obstacles and break them down into little steps.
  • Make a vision board or dream board of yourself having reached your goal.
  • Educate yourself in the areas you are weak.

“Desire is the key to motivation, but it’s the determination and commitment to an unrelenting pursuit of your goal – a commitment to excellence – that will enable you to obtain the success you seek.” _ Mario Anretti
